Dark Sky Regions
Learn more about Dark Sky regions
Dark Sky regions offer a unique opportunity to experience the beauty of the night sky and feel a connection to nature and the universe.
Dark Sky regions are special areas that are characterized by their unadulterated, natural darkness and are therefore ideal for observing the night sky. These regions are free of so-called light pollution, which occurs in urban and densely populated areas and impairs the view of the starry sky. In Dark Sky regions, with clear visibility and good eyesight, you can see up to 6,500 stars with the naked eye, which is often not possible in heavily light-polluted cities, where only a few dozen or no stars are visible. The town of Kleinsölk is located in such a region with a particularly dark night sky. This means that the stars can be observed particularly impressively in the Dark Sky Apartments and the Milky Way can be seen unforgettable when visibility is clear. Shooting stars can also often be seen, which of course also pleases us. Preserving the dark night sky brings other advantages:
- Promoting astronomy and stargazing
- Health benefits
- Cultural and historical significance
- Protected area for environment and biodiversity
- Energy efficiency
There is also a Dark Sky community that tries to preserve the dark night sky for humanity in selected regions around the world. More about it on the official Dark Sky website:
